Ive got WIN 98 SE installed in a 350 Mhz Intel P2 box. I have an internal 56K fax modem either USR or Intel, not sure. I just installed WIN 98 SE today and cannot get the modem to work (cant get a dial tone). DEVICE MANAGER shows
the following as not operational with YELLOW exclamations:
1-PCI Input controller
2-PCI Multimedia audio device.
3-PCI Serial Controller

DEVICE MANAGER did show the modem as a USR 56K faxmodem on COM 1 working properly when I selected those attributes for the internal modem.
How do I get the modem to acquire a dial tone and how do I know if the modem should be on COM 1 or COM 2? I dont know the modem brand and dont know the COM port it should be on.
I dont have any driver disks to load modem software from.
HELP! Can anyone step me through a solution to this?

Your problem is the drivers are not installed for the modem, we're here to help but, not without the manufacturers name and model number of the motherboard, you haven't given enough information to help you.

I dont know the modem brand and dont know the COM port it should be on.
I dont have any driver disks to load modem software from.

This isn't the psychic hotline here, look on the motherboard for some kind of identification, you can search through, Google yourself, or post back what you discover, but no one here will be able to help you without more info.

You can always disable the onboard modem and install a PCI modem, if its able to be disabled in the CMOS setup it will be a piece of cake, if it takes jumpering on the Motherboard, gee that would mean you'd have to know what kind of M/B it is, to get a manual if you don't have one, to find out which jumper disables it, but there in again if you knew what M/B it is you could download drivers for the modem.

Looks like the onboard sound drivers aren't installed either.

And also the Chipset drivers.

I'm increasing my post count, or I've got a bad memory, for the multiple posts, take your pick.
