I was hoping someone on this site could recommend a good game that can be played either over LAN or internet that would be fun to play with a female "signaficant other"

It's a good thing that my wife, mistress, and girlfriend are the same person...

She doesn't have that much gaming experience so if there is a game where we can both be on the same team so that I could help her along that would be great!

I have seen mods for Doom III and other games that allow for co-op play if they are any good I'd like to hear about them too.

Thanks

Oh: I guess I should have specified that I was looking for PC games

heh you sure she wants to play some gory shooter? there are a ton of co-op mods for most of the hits out today(hl2, farcry) hmm but the only really only co-op game i play is diablo. instaed of shooters i would stick to easier games, i dont know if they have but theyve released so many friggin expansions for the sims i wouldnt be able to tell, maybe theres a co-op in there somewhere girls usually love the sims(from my experience(over shooters)). Good Luck my friend :D

If you are interested in RPG's then you should check out this topic.

Playing coop is a great way to start of with as it is less competitive, and it's a fun way of learning to play games with your significant other.

If you have lots of competition in your relationship already and you're looking to extend the experience into the gaming arena, then any type of death match will do i guess :)

If you are really really secure in your relationship you could try a massive multiplayer online game

Is she into sports? If so, every sport sim woth it's salt has multi-player. My ex was a footie fan so we used to play Fifa and Pro-Evo both coop (against the computer) and competitively when we needed to decide who was going to wash up...

it depends what she's into...get her to try some games.

She may like RPG, she make like FPS...don't go buy a game before you know she likes it or not!

You can really play anygame now online with her, HL2, D2, EQ, WoW, Quake...those are some games us chicks typically become addicted to :p

Thanks all for your input.

I have an old copy of Baulder's Gate II that we'll have to try. Racing games might also be good for her (she's a better driver than me, I hate to admit) given the right controllers.

Eventually, I'd like to play some fps'ers but my second desktop machine isn't up to the newer ones (yet).

co-op racing game? hmm. I know one, but it is on GameCube - Double Dash (the Mario thing). One player controls the car, and another the weapons.

Yes I'm serious. How old are you hjohnso2?

BTW MxM that sounds like a good one. I was thinking along those lines too. Maybe even have her play a gunner on BF2.

I've found RTS games are fun to start with. Something like Starcraft, and ease her in with you and her vs one computer, then when she gets better two computers. Once you're good at working as a team, play against three, or even four computer teams against you.

Get hold of a copy of the original Unreal Tournament. It's still great fun to play and it'll run on even quite decrepid machines.

LOL..I am 35..married with a kid..I am just busting your balls..although I cant understand why you want to play video games with your wife/girl when there are so many more "fun" things to do with them..I can see a 12 year old asking that question..but not anybody over 16! By 16 you should have figured out what games you should be playing! LOL

Co-op gamming is a valid pastime for 2 adults who want to spend time together. :D

And I meant computer gamming. Once had a girlfriend who loved CS.

Playing games against your man is awesome! Especially when they're "going easy on you" but you really know your workin em over hardcore and they're upset

Well I'm 37 and happily married, but unless you're taking Levitra or that little blue friend, you're going to have to take a break or two! And just what do you do, sleep? Maybe, but why not game then sleep... :D

Alright..fair enough. Then can I suggest "Star Wars Battlefront II". Its a shooter but has a very different feel to it than most. One because you switch to third person view. This is kind of fun and a nice change of pace from traditional FPS. Second, star wars environment and characters have been done very well. You can also play in space with all the Star Wars space ships. I am not a huge star wars fan but this game is a ton of fun..no real gore which she might like. She can also play as Princess Leia.

My two cents.

Okay, that was a little uncalled for I admit but after being labeled a "pansy man"..I felt an chauvanist insult was in order..hahaha. "Most" women I know don't like "blood and gore" even in a video game..so what I was saying was..if she doesnt like that ("blood and gore"), some guys probably dont like it also although I have never met one thankfully, then maybe Star Wars Battlefront II is a good game.

From personal experience I managed to get my girlfriend to play LOL with me for a period of time, you can do bot matches and you can usually sell the game by showing them Teemo or another cute character. The character art is pretty cool and there are some pretty fun skins for the characters. Just carry her and give her kills and she will feel compelled to keep playing, I've noticed a lot of women will abandon learning a game with a fairly steep learning curve if they arent doing as good if not better than their partner at the get go. so if you're good enough at the game, carry her through, she'll slowly pick it up. it's like teaching a baby bird how to fly haha.
