COOP MISSIONS GAMES LIST (NO MASSIVELY ONLINE GAMES)

Please list the RPG games (or any games for that matter - NO GAMES THAT ONLY HAVE DM/CAPTURE THE FLAG, etc - that you can play coop LAN on. We are looking for games that allow you to do basically the same thing multiplayer as you can singleplayer - beat the game/missions cooperatively.
I wish there were more of these types of games my son and I could conquer together, but just finding the ones that are is a pain.
Maybe we could use this as an ongoing list as I am always looking for these types of games, as are many other father/son/buddies....
Thanks for the help everyone

PC ONLY please

Hack & Slash RPGs
------------------------
Diablo
Diablo II
Nox
Dungeon Siege
Dungeon Siege 2 (not sure if these two belong under hack and slash though)

D&D RPG games
-------------------
Neverwinter Nights
Icewind Dale + Icewind Dale II
Baulder's Gate + Baulder's Gate II

Shooters
-------------------

Ghost Recon (Has Co-op missions and Terrorist Hunt)
R6 Lockdown
Hidden and Dangerous (very hard we've played it for 4 years and never beat the whole game has an expansion and is free to download now)
Hidden and Dangerous 2: Sabre Squadron (MUST HAVE SABRE SQUAD EXPANSION TO BE COOP awsome game great graphics much more beat able then first but only like 8 missions i hear there's an unoffical pack of more missions though)
Serious Sam 1 and 2 ( senseless killing but hilariously fun me and 3 buddys beat the whole game last weekend together you spend alot of time back to back in the middle of a huge arenas with litterally hundreds of enemys storming at you)
Delta Forces ( a little slow)
Unreal (only the first one was co-op)
Operation Flashpoint
Aliens vs Preditor 1 ( it doesnt support newest nvidia cards anymore but boy did it have fun coop fighting through canyons of aliens and bunkering down not too many objectives but fun none the less)

I'll sticky this if you get enough information on your list.
March 20, 2006 4:12:13 AM

Well here are a few that I can think of off the top of my head:

hack and slash RPGs
------------------------
Diablo
Diablo II
Nox

D&D RPG games
-------------------
Neverwinter Nights
Icewind Dale + Icewind Dale II
Baulder's Gate + Baulder's Gate II

And of course all though perhaps not the type of game you are looking for... theres a whole plethora of MMORPG games that provide endless questing adventures with a son/friend/whoever. That is of course if you are willing to dish out the monthly fees, and your lives!!! :)

I too am a big fan of these games, so I'll hunt around for some more, but I'm eager to see what others post up here as well!

Cheers!

erm for PC im not sure, a game ive found popular with ladies is actually Worms 2, they find the worms cute and funny so its fun playing against each other on the same pc. plus you can build your own maps using paint with black being the land and white being the sky.
March 20, 2006 8:30:23 PM

lancelott just about covered the whole list in one post. Anyway the thread is worth a sticky as the info provided by him is good, relevant, and useful.

cheers

Thanks Big Mac, Lets get this started then...
March 21, 2006 5:24:46 PM

Thanks santeana
Forgot about the R6 series stuff. They also used to have a stat tracker called Gilleons <---(something like that) Stat Tracker I think. It was for Rogue Spear. Was fun to play terrorist hunt and keep stats against your buddies. You could have it upload to your web page and everyone could see your accumilative stats. You could also see them on your pc without a web page.
Wish I still had that program, will see if I can find a link and post it. If anyone has links to stat tracker programs for Ghost recon, etc...please post them as this is great fun for you and your buddies. Lan/or TCPIP games.
Co-op games? You mean like the old arcade ones you can buy?

I thought that we were looking at non massive multipayer coop rpg games? This list will be mega big in no time. Of course if that's your idea/target I suggest that you change the title of this thread (If that is possible. ) so that more people will read this.

While branching out to other genres would be helpful you are going to mislead people with the title.

Cheers

thanks choknuti...nice catch.
March 22, 2006 11:48:40 AM

Sorry to be a bother but is it possible to add strategy to your list too? (maybe just all coop PC games?) I too play games with my son but since he is only 6 years old RPGs are out and too much graphical violence in FPS (would get into trouble with the wife). So the only choice for us are strategy games like Age of empires, HOMM etc. Would love to see what people would recommend.

I think your edited description of Coop games is covering it well enough. Just make a clear distinction that massive multiplayer games are definitely out of scope, and then you can change the title (again) to just Coop missions games.
March 30, 2006 4:22:34 PM

Co-op gaming its insane that people don't know what that is!!! this is the best gaming ever 4 buddies lan'd goign through single player missions together heres my fav's

April 3, 2006 11:54:05 AM

RTS

Warhammer 40000 dawn of war: Great fun. Good balance of troops and gory action (not for the weak of heart)

Starcraft (and brood war expansion): No details needed 2 b given

Warcraft III: ditto
April 4, 2006 2:15:18 PM

this is easy if you like steal action ie the thief series

unreal tournament, go to www.thieveryut.com download the mod install and play multiplayer thief. great guard ai coop and team based available normaly most servers play thieves vs guards both human teams with some AI
this game is so awsome i've been playing for about 3 years now. still can't get enough of it.
April 4, 2006 7:02:39 PM

some more RTS:

-Red alert 1 & 2.
Im not sure, but I thought the Codename: Panzers series also had co-op missions.

man, I wish Rome: Total War would contain co-op
April 6, 2006 4:39:20 AM

System Shock 2 was always a favourite of mine to play with my friends at LANs, Being able to play a dedicated OSA guy with psi powers, and have a meatshield backing me up with heavy weapons was always fun.

Also, IL2 Sturmovic/Pacific Fighters allow for some great coop action..

And there's a mod for the original Half Life calle Sven Coop that you might like to have a look at.

Oh, and the original Doom and Doom 2 ;)
April 9, 2006 4:07:48 PM

You've all (unbelievably!) missed out the biggest and best Co-op of them all: Splinter Cell.

Work together to achieve a common goal as the worlds slickest Super-Spies!

Action, sneakiness, tactics... trust me, it's th ebest.

You need Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow or Splinter Cell, Chaos Theory for Co-Cop. Get Chaos Theory if your system is up to it, it's much better. Enjoy!

Hi, if your interested in coop games on the PC, stop by the website I run

http://www.thecoopyears.co.uk

When building the site (and theres loads more games still to add) I became amazed at how many more coop games there were, than I previously thought. Some of the lesser mentioned games (not all recent):

Dangerous Waters (Sub sim, if you have the patience and time!!!)
Soldiers: Heroes of World War II (Excellent plays as fun as a FPS in places)
Codename: Outbreak (One of my Favourties)
Rainbow Six: Lockdown (Funny, its so recent but I saw it in a bargin bin the other day, maybe theres hope for the new R6: Vegas)
Starship Troopers (Haven't played this one yet though)
Vietcong 1 + 2
April 19, 2006 9:40:20 PM

Another game that isn't well known is Join Ops: Typhoon Rising.

It has single player/co-op missions, and the size of the map ranges up to 150km^2 if you make your own.
June 2, 2006 9:31:59 AM

i dont know any games that is not mentioned yet, but it would be more than nice if they made co-op for games like doom3 and quake4 (dont think it is going to happen though)

BTW i had a blast with serious sam in co-op mode as well..
June 7, 2006 9:35:11 PM

What about the Games with the mods? Like Sven moding Half-life for Coop-Op mode? Or my favorite Desert Combat mod of BF 1942.
June 8, 2006 3:18:15 PM

I don't know if it's ever been updated, I played this one a long time ago, but there do seem to be a lot of fan sites for it still:

Darkstone. When I played it, it had a two player coop mode.
June 14, 2006 5:16:03 PM

i know that farcry has a mod that allows coop but im not sure how stable it is
June 29, 2006 2:22:14 AM

Fallout Brotherhood of Steel. Great game, never tried coop.
June 29, 2006 1:19:39 PM

Another you could try is Freelancer.
It's curently my favorite space sim.
it doesn't have a coop campaign but its multi player is very good for coop
one person flies a fighter craft while the other flies a freighter for instance.
theres also a few good mods for it that ad alot of content.
Thouh I'm not sure but the online play may be more towards that of an mmo
I guess it deppends what you consider to be the defining points of an mmo.
July 12, 2006 11:32:49 AM

you can add the joystick killers,

Descent 2
Descent 3

the source code is released and the licences are abandoned so you can freely download and redistribute via p2p/ftp etc. world wide and local lans are run on a regular basis

www.planetdescent.com `the` source for info, tuts, mods, maps etc

www.descentbb.net, the forums

Ghost Recon: Advance Warfighter has an incredible Co-op mode. Good stuff online or LAN. Takes a beefy system to run it though.

Alien Swarm, a total conversion for UT2004. Look here. Incredible top-down alien game that brings back thoughts of xenophobia and the movie Aliens. (game over man, game over!) One of the better quality mods that is worth the large download. Nothing quite like circling back-to-back w/ bullets flying all around you while the aliens swarm you... intense to no end. (new retail version is comming out on steam/source, should be better yet)

Many UT2004 mods out there that are co-op...
July 13, 2006 1:03:24 AM

okay is there any coop game that is overly violent, gory, or full of magic? OH by the way you forgot

incredibles 2 rise of the underminers.

Ummm... Just about all of them?
July 18, 2006 3:35:32 PM

Deus Ex (the first one) has a CO-OP mod out for it.. a bit old skool but good non the less.
July 19, 2006 5:55:42 PM

Any of the Joint Operations series is really good, lots of free add-ons and maps galore. Sorta old, but this game doesn't want to die.
July 24, 2006 4:38:26 AM

two RTS's tht are really good and fun..and can be played on LAN are Battle for Middle-Earth I and II..they're really fun to play and you can download lots of fun maps from anywhere

For Doom 3 there's the Last Man Standing mod where you essentailly join servers with single player missions, this would also include the main game single player levels. Though I last tried this a months back and I could never join another server but I could create a server and some people could connect to the levels with me. PC Gamer writers had a good blast with it though so I jus prolly buggered it up sumewhere  Good fun and the developers should've worked out the bugs by now :D

Dunno bout quake 4 though its natural to assume a co-op mod would be developed for Quake 4, same engine as Doom 3.
There are some semi-good mods for Half Life 2 which allow co-op play too, though I cant remember the name of it. Try halflife2.filefront.com an check out the downloads section. Battlefield 2 also has some co-op mods on its own filefront site.

Good luck with your family gaming, good to hear stories like that.

Battlefield 1942+Expansions
Battlefield Vietnam
Battlefield 2+Expansions
SWAT 4+Expansion

+ many more
September 18, 2006 8:11:39 AM

How about listing whether it has a demo? (only if the demo is co op as well, I know R6 lockdown demo is)

Also, halo custom edition has co op maps you can download.

Post appears to be abandoned by OP. Oh well. System Shock 2 has a multiplayer patch so you can play coop.

System shock 2 is so old though...

I am always looking for fun coop games with great graphics and especially not too hard to play with my girlfriend on local LAN.

Here is what I have:
Diablo style: Sacred, Spellforce (RTS/hack hybrid)
RTS: almost all RTS are fun to play coop multiplayer. I played rise of nations 1/2(hard to master but found it the best strategy wize), age of mythology, battle for middle earth II (amazing graphics and detail)

Dungeon Siege 1/2 were fun but not much replayability.
Neverwinter nights took really long to finish.

my 2 cents

Quake 1 (man, i still love that)

If you going to go retro like that, i suggest looking with DirectX quake, (yes it -is- out there, maybe hard to find tho) DirectX version looks like the GLquake one did. *****SEE EDIT BELOW*****

Also try and get the GeNclasses mod. lets you choose some cool character types (knight, Beast (think Blanka char from streetfighterII), sniper et al.)
and yes, you can get DirectX guake to work with the GenClasses mod......
Link to GenClassses mod, 10mb

LMS for Doom3 absolutely rocks: Has a COOP mode for the mod, for the singleplayer game levels, and now contains the First Episode of Doom with all the weapons and levels for playing Classic Doom in Coop mode.

Pretty well bug free now.
December 9, 2006 2:25:58 PM

Sorry if these have already been stated, but:

Splinter Cell 3: Chaos Theory (though you'll definitely want a 3rd party voice chat system like TeamSpeak if you're playing online)

SWAT 3
SWAT 4 (the expansion greatly improves co-op)

DOOM
DOOM 2
Final DOOM

System Shock 2

Sven Co-op mod for Half-Life

I think Far Cry, Doom 3 & Half-Life 2 all have co-op mods, but I think I've heard none of them are good.

Lego Star Wars 2! XD

EDIT: Also Daikatana... lol
January 4, 2007 2:54:19 PM

NWN and its 2 expansions can be co-oped.

NWN 2 in single-player allows you to have up to 3 NPCs (party of 4) which you can take full control of any of the 3 NPCs while temporarily turning your character into a NPC when you do this.
In multiplayer it might be possible to have several players have NPCs to be fully controlled.
April 12, 2007 10:17:49 PM

I wish this sticky was managed again so there was a list at the top

Alien Shooter: Vengence is a funny sensless coop game literally aobut 10,000 aliens per level

Brothers in Arms: earned in blood FPS

Rainbow Six:Vegas is easily the funnest coop game right now GRAW2 coming soon to PC though
