Hi everyone,
I originally started having this problem with Battlefield 2 (the first game I installed on this 2 week old computer). Basically, i will start playing and the framerate will be at 75fps and within about 15 seconds it will drop to 15 and stay there indefinitely. I thought it was just a problem with battlefield 2 but I am getting it with Need For Speed Most Wanted now and it seems to be impacting my 3dmark05 scores. Sometimes my fps will shoot back up to 75 after a few minutes but most of the time they don't. Here are my specs:
Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego
Geforce 6800GS
1Gig Dual Channel Ram
430W Antec TruePowerII PSU
I thought this problem might be related to AMD's Cool-N-Quiet technology but it happens even when I have CnQ deactivated. I have monitored my cpu clock with cpu-z and it is showing 2198mhz which is correct. So I am not sure what the hell to think...My CPU runs at a cool 25-30C and the graphics card is showing 45C. I've read on other forums about people having similar problems with FPS dropping for no reason and cpu usage shooting to 100% for no reason. I have run AVG anti-virus and it has not found anything. Anyone know what might be causing this problem?
Thanks,
Rob
