How to customize audio (speech)?

Hi. Well...I have a small question I think. One day I was at a friends house and his friend's PC was literally talking to him. It would tell him funny things whenever he got mail, etc,.

I'm wondering how did this guy get his computer to talk (and by talk I mean TALK! It wasn't dodgy like the speech in start/control panel/speech)? Did he assign all those "triggers"? If so...how do you do that? I thought it was awesome. I'll elaborate my Q's a little more if need be. :)

BTW- I have a MCE HP 864n.

Thanx a bunch,
Nosam

There's a goofy little program called Bonzi Buddy that will talk your head
off. It's popular with some folks but the program is known to add spyware
as well as the little buddy that chatters away at you. Even if I wanted the
chatter, I would not want the spyware.

Hahaha! Thanx. I don't think I want the spyware either. Hmmm...do you know if SpyBot detects the ware?

BTW- His PC would say curse words and stuff (absolutely hilarious)...know of anything like that? Maybe I'm asking the wrong stuff here...hmmmm...umm, ok. Is it possible to type text into the speech generator thing and assign what it plays back to a certain app and function? Like...whenever I get mail...could I generate a greeting on my own and have it react to certain things?

That should clarify a bit. ;) Thanx again.

Just do a google search on BonziBuddy and you'll see what I was talking
about. Removal starts with Add/Remove Programs and then goes beyond that.
Spybot S&D and AdAware are both capable of picking up the spyware.

I don't know of any other program like that. BUT... You could record your
own sounds. If your sound card has a mixer with effects, you could
"disguise" your voice in the recordings. Then use Control Panel> Sound and
Audio> Sounds> Events to assign the sound files to any of the available
events.

Some of the messaging programs (Yahoo, MSN, AIM, etc) may have downloadable
"sound packs." Most of these ready-made sound packs would be set up using
Control Panel as described above.

I'll look into those sound packs you spoke of. That sounds like it could be it.
