need an asus p5a motherboard or other ssy7 board that will
support the k6III+ 450 notebook cpu's.
anyone got one in their closet they can dig out for me?
apparently the p5ab at type has a different bios that will'
not recognize the laptop cpu.

I'd like to get a super socket 7 board too. Let me know if you ever get one and where you got it.

Gee, where were you when I was selling on on E-bay.

Oh well.

As for the K6III+, there is a note on Asus' site (or, at least at one time) that mentioned it will not accept the laptop K6's. The memo mentioned something to the order that it won't work with any AMD chip released after 1/1/01 (or something to that effect)

I don't think the ATX version will help. If need be, I think I do still have the old AT bios that might help you.

I would give Ebay a shot. I've seen them go for $20-$30US.
Just bought me a 1.26/512 P3 tualatin for $150.US off Ebay . Running at 1.583gig. as of now. Maybe more with some more tweeking.

I aint signing nothing!!!

yes, maybe i will find one cheap and maybe not.
thought i would check the forums first.
and then either e-bay or relegate the laptop cpu to
one of my lesser systems that don't recognize the cpu either and just let it run like a k6-2 at 450 or so.
it is a k6III450 cpu.
i had it running at 550 once on windows install from k6-3 450. once i set up windows with the board or windows
not recognizing the cpu completely it won't top 450.
i think that with the right board might get 550 or 600
out of it. thanks for reply.

the p5a atx will support the laptop cpu with voltage and bios.
i have the at board p5ab which does not.
tom ran the k6+ cpu's in several boards here.
the review/ guide.
is here at toms hardware.
he had a list of boards known to support with voltage
and bios.
anand also has a list of supporting boards that they tested.
i don't rember if it was on mr pabst list or anands
but it was tested andpassed. the latest version bios for atx model like: 1007a bios is listed with it,
1007a is the latest bios for the p5a.
1010 is the latest bios for p5ab and i'm running it.
loaded also 1008,1010 beta bios.
it runs but is recognized by motherboard p5ab as an old
mmx p55c series pentium.
not using cache and k6 optimizations like write alllocate
efficiently or not at all.
