If you use somebodys key you will affect him. As long as you play single player It does not matter; but as soon as you go online someone else won't be able to play anymore.

Ok does anyone have any idea or an estimate on the copies of united offensive sold and the possible number of combinations a keygen will produce? My guess is the keygen will be able to create a lot more

There are probably billions or trillions of potential combinations for the key. Even when The Sims releases it's 380th add-on disc it still won't have sold that many copies.
But how many of those combinations are valid is anyone's guess.

I imagine that the publishers keep a record of what CD-keys have been printed, and checks those against registrations. If my guess is right, you will therefore need to find a key that has been created but not yet used. This will probably be a disc sitting unsold in a shop or warehouse somewhere. The number of these, compared to the possible key combinations, will be miniscule. Unless you automate the procedure to test out your keys, it could take you years to crack it. Good.

In all honesty, your best bet is to save up the $$$s and buy the game. I understand that prostitution is legal in some states of Australia...

(The last bit was a joke by the way, don't be offended!)

can always go upto upto canberra and sell myself lol.

so u reckon the reason i keep getting the cd key in use msg is cos it isnt actually a registered key

It's either:

1. Not a vald key
2. Is a valid key and has been registered by the owner.

Like I said, the chance of you finding an unused but valid key is probably pretty small. They deliberately make these things hard to crack!

He didn't just say that, did he? He did?

I'll spare you the tirade, since I'm sure you've heard it before and it probably won't make sense to you until you're a bit older anyway, but maybe you can just go ahead and picture me red-faced and shaking my fist in the air.

yeah i said it, think about it. I would never of bought this game as i dont have the money. So the makers of the game would never of made money off me for it anyway, so if i get it for free anyway are they losing money or potential mony from me? No

But FFS! If you're playing OL with another persons key he cannot play. And he has paid for it. Dammit! Does that not compute in your tiny head man?

Friend, I can already see that this will go nowhere, but it's my lunch hour and the forums are slow.

Of course they've lost potential money from you, because you're playing the game. They built it, it cost them money to build it, and you've stolen it to play without paying. And now you'd like to use their servers and bandwidth--which cost money--to play online without paying.

I realize you didn't steal an actual box, or CD, or manual, or anything physical that cost money to produce or print. But in this day and age, that no longer matters. You, as a player, are built into the development budget for the game, which represents actual money that they're losing on every player who doesn't buy the game legitimately. Every one. That's YOU.

I think he won't get it. That's sad. But I remember when I was younger I didn't understand it, too. Hell it was even cool to pirate. So I don't expect every kid to be able to see the ramifications of the problem rightaway. Give those peeps time; let them put effort into something. And then we'll see how they think if it is finally being pirated...

Can we please stop this nonsense? Just follow the rules or go elsewhere with this. I don't care who's losing or not losing money over your behavior but we do not want you to use these forums for queries like this.

You're stubborn enough to warrant a public warning. I'll lock the topic now, and better not start another one on a similar topic or that will lead to a (permanent) ban.
