no thats just BF2 and EA/dice's excuse for programming.

in a serious note. what pings do the servers you play on have. what are your specs and did this happenat all before the patch.

Is it choppy in single-player as well? If so, then it's the program at fault. If it's fine in single player but bad in multi-player then it's your connection or the server.

Once you've determined the fault we can put our heads together to try and fix it :)

yeah, you need a very low ping so its not choppy (< 100 constantly, no internet usage from other pcs).
I've found that i can actually increase the quality slightly at the same frame rates.
even though 1.22 didnt fix all the problems i still find it actually is still an improvemint performance wise.
Also update the drivers. I had to update mine (nvidia ones) in order for everything to work smothly

my pings are good around 30-60 ping i dont like going into servers with over 100 ping

my system is
AMD 64 3200+ @ 2.4
1GB of XMS DDR 400
6800gs @ 483-1100
and a 7200rpm hard drive

i was really thinking it was the Ram

any suggestions ?

its a little choppy in single player -very very little

i cant run things to its full settings

i have the BF2 demo also and that runs Great without any stuttering

weird

ye your ram is the problem. needs two gigs. is it choppy on lowest settings

Reply to strangestranger

Probably your RAM. Try turning down settings or restrciting yourself to small and medum maps. Apparently BF2 on high settings needs around 1.5Gb of memory on large maps. Since you have 1Gb of RAM, it'll be using 0.5Gb of your page file, which is slower than your RAM and probably causing the choppiness.

You might get a slighter better performance if you can give your hard drive a good defrag - including the page file.

Your ping is not always an indicator of connection quality. You may also be getting choke and packet loss.

When you say the game is laggy do you mean as in the game is running slowly or are you lagging as in conection speed drops?

Nevermind my opinion on the game I don't play BF2 cos their netcode is a joke as far as I'm concerned. Connection interuptions, ping spikes and so on. Rubbish.

This worked for me and this may actually have been mentioned and/or tried:

Open the following folder:

C:
Program Files
EA GAMES
Battlefield2
mods
BF2
settings

(sorry for the format - it keeps taking out my slashes!)

Open the file videodefault.con in notepad

find the line: Renderer.allowallrefreshrates

Change the 0 at the end to 1

Save the file

Start BF2 and see if that helps.
