Hi

I use a windows xp home edition (OEM) CD and when i first installed it on my computer and tried to check on the updates available for windows it froze up my computer even the mouse cursor didn't move.I rebooted again and still the same thing happened with updates.I even uninstalled windows and reinstalled it back and still same problem.

I installed windows xp pro using a friend CD and it worked fine when i wanted to get the updates avaliable for it.So i want to know what's the problem is it sth wrong with the original CD of home edition i bought it 2 weeks ago. Also why xp pro worked and home didn't and what should i do to fix this problem.Thank you for your help.

P.S my computer is new

Hi Harry,

I already checked the video drivers and nth is wrong with it.It's compatibile with windows xp.
It is Radeon 7000 graphics. Also now i'm using windows xp pro and i didn't face that problem with it so why does it only happen when using home edition. So i need to know what i should do now.Thank you for your help.

I have XP prof + a Radeon 7000. 32 MB DDR AGP. It worked OK until I upgraded
my CPU, I updated the drivers + it doesn't work well at all. If I have to do
a Repair or (probably) clean install of windows, I have to take the card out
of the machine. The setup will freeze or fail with that card in.

I have Radeon 7000 64 MB DDR video card and it didn't give me that freezing problem when i wanted to get updates from the window update website. It worked ok with windows xp pro. It's just with windows xp home edition (OEM).So i don't know what is the problem. If it was a drivers problem it should have done the same when i installed windows xp pro.I need help.My computer is new and i bought the original CD of windows xp home edition couple of weeks ago and it doesn't want to work so what else should i do.Thank you for your help.

I have a Radeon 7000 and it works fine with XP Pro and the full Retail
version of XP Home. I don't have the same OEM you have to test it with. OEM
versions are not always the same as Retail versions. Some OEMs are branded,
some have items stripped out, and some will not even install to a system
other than the one they come with. Why your system freezes when you install
the OEM version is hard to tell. Why not simply rule out video drivers? Is
there some reason why you won't bother to try and install drivers for this
card from the manufacturer's site?
