just got an ecs k7s53\amd1600 (my first homebuild pc) and i am haveing trouble with my cd rom drive. Win 98 seems to be having trouble communicating with the cdrom (cant install anything from cdrom). I heard somewhere that this is a SiS chipset error, but i am having trouble confirming that. I thought maybe it was an ide problem. Can someone please help?

I had a similar problem, but it was with win2k, windows didn´t recongnize my cd, so I reinstalled it and the problem took off. Try doing this.

Verify that your cd-rom is being recognize by the bios. If it isn´t, check the jumper configuration.

"by the way......, be yourself!"

I got an ECS k7s5a and two of my friends have the samw mobo too, i can assure you it is NOT an SiS735 problem and none of us tree have encountered a similar problem ever. I got a Pionner 116 DVD-ROM and a BTC CD-R both IDE and all is O.K. If you got your CD-ROM on the same cable with your hard disk on the primary channel, go and get another flat IDE cable and place the CD-ROM as master on the secondary IDE channel. If that dosn't do the trick, then you probably got a faulty CD-ROM drive.

No, it's not a chipset problem. Whoever told you that is full of crap. Go to this forum and get help along with any help you get here....you'll have to be more detailed though if we're to help you.
