I'm trying to upgrade from home to pro - but after it
checks the hardware configuration (and says its ok) it
goes to restart, and either freezes or a blue screen
(with writing) flashes and it restarts again.

I'm afraid I'm going to crash the whole thing. xp Home
works fine except for some occasional freezing, but I
thought pro may take care of it.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

What do you mean? hardware problems? I'm just not sure
how to narrow down what's actually causing the problem.

As I stated - the blue screen 'flashes' there's no time
to read what's on it. Sorry.

Pro will not help your problems, go to Computer Management, Event Viewer and
look for errors. You can click on the error and look at the error message.
