Ok, I know how to put pc's together, how to troubleshoot them, and I like to keep up to date with the latest technology. So please excuse me if this question seems stupid. According to a recent article here, there is no difference in the 850chipset vs. the 850E chipset except that the boards have been verified to run at 133 memory bus. I have an Asus board, the company has proven to me its reliability and stability over time. Stability usually means conservative estimates on the specs of the board. So I'm thinking why can't I just run some magic bios update and have myself a 133 bus speed. Sure I'll be out some nice samsung memory, but hey, it was only 1/2 a gig's worth anyway!

I think the problem with using the 850 motherboard is that manufacturers used 400 MHz DRCGs - Direct RAMBUS Clock Generator and you will need 533 MHz DRCGs to get the memory to run stable.
Check out http://www.hothardware.com/hh_files/Motherboards/abitth7iidrcg.shtml and http://www.vapochill.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=647&pagenumber=1 You will find some interesting information as well as how to get some 533 MHz DRCGs from Texas Instruments. The DRCGs are back ordered at this time, but when I get mine, I will be modding my ABIT TH7-II and adding Samsung memory if my current memory doesn't work. And if Intel 133 MHz P4s drop in price, I'll get one of those too.
