Heres the deal my current rig that I was given for college is a amd duron 701mhz with 512 ram and 20g drive, crappy PCI card... heres the deal I got a few bucks and am looking into a better rig my work is got some semperon's on clearance and I was thinking of picking it up Here is the processer
AMD Sempron™
Model Number: 3400+
Frequency (MHz): 2000
L2 Cache Size: 256KB
Socket: 754
Stepping: E6
Manufacturing Tech (CMOS): 90nm SOI
Wattage (W): 62
System Bus (MHz): 1600

It has a PCI express slot which is nice 512 ram and 160gig harddrive onboard audio (eh) 6channel. Heres the kicker its a Compaq Presario SR1720NX
paying $360 +130 for a 6800 Nvidia
so my question is Is this a good buy? more importantly will this suit atleast
min-medium sys reqs for some games?

for a proper answer on this i would re post in the hardware section, probably in the homebuilt.

but to answer your question that rig should let you play games at medium-high quality depending on which game. also i would like to recommend you to go with atleast 1GB of RAM rather than 512.

should work very will and ram is cheap go with 2GB but if you can afford than go with 1GB at least and you can switch the CPU and GPU when you get more cash...have fun

Yeah, I'd get another 512 of RAM. The 6800 will handle your min-med specs for most games, but if you can find a way to swing a 7000 series card, go for that.

Here is what I would do...

Buy that pc, or something cheaper. I recently got this machine from best buy:

Compaq Presario
Sempron 3100+
512MB ram
CD RW
DVD ROM
8-1 media reader
17 inch monitor
printer

all for only... $299.00... yes 300 bucks.

So I added a gig of ram, a cheap soundcard ( a basic Audigy from Best Buy) and a X800GTO.

Total system was like 500 bucks.

You could get the ram, and X800GTO even cheaper since they are cheaper for PCI-E!
