So, any info / help is welcome.
Thanks

PS. The onbord sound have been disabled ...

----------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sirs,
I have bought a Philips Seismic Edge (PSC 705) sound card.
After I have installed the card in the computer, the sound card have NOT been detected by the system.
The sound card does NOT appear in the "PCI Device list..." at the computer start up.
I tested all PCI slots with all BIOS configurations possible.
The MB BIOS version have been updated to the last version available on the Soltek site.
The card is still NOT detected by the system.

I have tested the sound card on other two computers and the sound card is working well.
I have tested other sound cards on my computer and are working well.

I will appreciate any info or advice from you regarding this problem.

Model numbe : Philips Seismic Edge (PSC705)

Hi,
Thank you for your answer.
The onboard sound from mobo have been disabled during the installation of the new sound card.

In your BIOS, in the PnP section, there should be an option labeled "Reset Configuration Data" or "Reset ESCD". This option when enabled will help with the detection of new PCI hardware. It's a function that is supposed to be automatic but with VIA chipsets it is a good idea to enable it each time you change hardware.

Try using a slot that does not share IRQ with the AGP or RIAD (if present) controller. AGP and PCI slot 1 are normally shared, so that's your first clue.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I have used PCI slots 2,3 and 4 only.
The serial ports have been disabled and AGP IRQ have been routed to IRQ4.

I was sure that was it.

Try booting to Safe Mode and check Device Manager. Delete any sound devices you find installed. See if Windows will then detect your sound card when you restart.

Hi,
I have already tested on other two systems.
The sound card is working.
That is the reason that the supplier doesn't whant to change the sound card :-((

Hi,
Sorry, I think my answer was not very clear.
The card was still not detected by the computer and after I have made that setting in BIOS.
If the computer doesn't detect the card, I can not install the drivers in Windows becuase the card doesn't "exist" in computer.
I have to say that I'm working in IT field since 1992 and until now I didn't saw anything like this. It's very odd.

I understood what you meant.

I'm sorry, I am the one that was not being very clear. I realize Windows is not detecting your sound card. What I meant is to remove any drivers for OTHER sound cards or sound devices, if any, like the Via AC97 sound drivers. If any sound cards have been previously installed in that system then the drivers may still be installed and they may be interfering with the detection of the new card. Clear of any sound drivers, Windows may be free to detect your card.

Frankly, it's a long shot but it's easy to try.

Here is Philips answer:

-----------------------------------------
Dear Sir,

thank you for your inquiry.

I have forwarded your email to my superiors. They will try to find an explanation and
a solution to this problem.

While we wait for an answer, have you disabled the onboard soundcard in both
'Integrated Peripherals' and in 'Chipset Features'?

best regards,

Nick
