I have a Linksys G510 PCI wifi card. Because where the PC is located, I
got very weak signal. I want to put in an extension calbe so I can
position the antanna to get better signals. Any suggestion on where to
get? If there is a store in the S. Calif area, it would be great?
Also, what kind of connection does this wifi card/antenna use?
TIA

Unless you upgrade the antenna to one with higher gain you/directionality
will get less signal due to losses in the cable + connectors....

This maybe true but my PC/antenna is about 6" off the floor with a lot
of "stuffs" between it and the AP. If I can place the antenna by my
monitor (~3' from the floor), I was hoping I can get better gain and
offset the cable loss...

You might want to get a WiFi antenna to go with that cable.
Fry's has started selling the Hawking line of add-on antennas.
www.outpost.com search for hawking antenna.
Just moving your little rubber duckie antenna won't be terribly helpful.

You could give up on the PCI, and get a USB-Wifi adapter which might
have a decent antenna, and can be located somewhere other than the backside
of the computer.

http://www.hyperlinktech.com has antennas. They also have a "pigtails"
listing on the cable assemblies page that might tell you what kind of
connector you have. That doesn't list your model, but there are pictures.
I don't see yours on the Linksys web site, either.

I am sorry. The card is D-Link G510 and not Linksys.
Will check out the links you provided. Thanks!

http://www.hyperlinktech.com has antennas.
I see some 8dbi wall mount antennas for $29.95 with the RP-SMA connector
that you need. http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/hg2409p.php

I don't see "extension cords" with RP-SMA plug to RP-SMA jack.

http://www.pasternack.com/

they make custom cables and pretty much have any connector you can
think of. They are incredibly quick, and if you're anywhere near
Irvine, you can just go to their office and they'll make the cables
while you wait.

Southern Calif is a big place. Also, paying retail is not my idea of
economy. However, may I suggest you hook up with the Southern Calif
Free Net or various wireless groups at:
http://socalfreenet.org
http://www.socalwug.org
http://www.sdwug.org
who probably know more about the local suppliers.

You should also consult an optometrist who may help you determine that
the DWL-G510 radio is made by DLlink, not Linksys, and that it does
NOT have an externa antenna connector, making attachment of an
external antenna somewhat of a challenge.

Argh. I thought the DWL-G510 was a PCMCIA card. Sorry...

That's okay, the Users' Guide says that it has a diversity patch antenna.
