I got a Dell system this time last year, and would now like to use the
monitor in portrait mode for WP and DTP.
The base is tilt only. There are four screws on the back of the
monitor - if I were to remove the base, would I then be able to
re-attach in portrait mode?

Probably, if there is enough room for it to clear the base. It's a standard
100x100 VESA back, so it is square.

Thanks Tom.
I found a "proper" solution on the Dell website - they sell the
Ergotron Neo-Flex LCD Stand which dow the job - and allows the monitor
to rotate between both portrait and landscape. Was easy enough to
replace the existing stand.
Using portrait mode for viewing web pages is an eye opener.
