just read this article:

near the bottom:

"Michael Cai breaks down the math for us: Just last year alone, advertisers spent over $60 billion on TV advertising. With 108 million households, that's a total investment of $45 - 50 per month. That's not much from each advertiser's perspective, but if you did away with ads, that's how much money consumers would need to spend to compensate."

surely if they didnt invest in advertising they would not spend the $60 billion? I.e. they would save themselves $60 billion. That means each household would need to spend $45-50 less per month to compensate. I like the sound of that.

Ohh if only it worked like that... why pass on a saving to consumers when all your competitors are working at the same level, people are happy to pay it and you can all (you and your competitors) invest the money elsewhere? And besides, with less advertising there's less sales (they do do it for a reason) and from there you get costs going up anyway. Economics, it's fun if… ok, so it's not fun at all, except to me.

They do it for a reason... Yeah right. To get more money. Those greedy bastards. It makes me angry if I get ads in a game I PAID FOR! Hell yes I would spend a little more to get some sneaky hacker to adblock those ugly banners.

We get ads we can't skip in DVDs we buy and rent as well. Don't like it? Everybody, stop renting and buying DVDs for a while. Possibly a reason why that rarely works, I'll get back to you when it lands on my head.

Yes I agree you're right. But I also hate DVD-ads. Though you watch them on a PC you can at least skip it. And as long as they don't advertise for nike in my MMORPG it's bareable.

thats why i load them up on my pc first and take out the adds...

theres also a way to skip them on my dvd player but you gotta be quick on the "root menu" button. :D
