Com locked up on install

Hello,
my com has locked up on install of 7 64 then take the install and has random lock ups sometimes locks up on boot sometimes for no aparent reason I only have one 2 gig stick uf ram could the ram be the problem have tried to install on new hard drive same problems

Have you updated all you chipset and hardware drivers?

it was the ram. the one i had must have had a bad sector. got 6 gig ram now com runs beautifuly. thanks for all help.
