I have a desktop running W2000 and have just bought a Thinkpad with XP Pro. I have exported my W2000 Outlook files to a new .pst file and put it on a cd.

When I run the CD on my XP lappie, I tell it to import the data and I get a message saying I do not have permission to access the file D:\personalfolder(1).pst - D being my cd drive. I am assuming it is not XP that is blocking but W2000. I cant see where or how the permission is granted. I have looked everywhere. Anyone help? Thanks in advance.

You can't import directly from the CD as Outlook requires complete
Read-Write access. Copy the pst file to your HDD, remove the read-only
attribute and then in Outlook go to File-Open-Outlook Data file. Do not
import.

Hi Gordon, thanks for response.

Still having problems. Have followed your instructions. Have copied the .pst file from the W2K pc onto a cd then copied it to a temp file on the hard drive of the lappie. Attritbutes are not set as read only. But when I go to Outlook, Open, Offfice Data File, I get a message saying it is not a .pst file!

Any further ideas?

Hi Gordon.

Sorted it! MS Knowledge base gave me the clue. On the W2k machine, MyComputer, Tools, File Types, I changed the file type for .pst file from Office Data File to Outlook Data File, recopied to cd, copied to lappie HDD and then Outlook, Open, Outlook data File. It worked!

Many thanks for your help, you put me on the right track.

Martin
