Hello,

While playing guild wars/MOH online I have been experiencing lag and low frame rates frequently. I have tried putting the settings on minimum and am running no programs in the background but still receive heavy lag. I have updated my drivers for video card etc....
but my frame rate, depending on the map, can be as low as 10. Some maps up to 40's. I have a wireless router, which can sometimes cause ping spikes and lag for about two seconds, which is understandable, but what about the rest of the time? What's causing it?

Stats:
Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 4000
Celeron 2.40 GHZ
768 MB of RAM
Linksys USB 2.40 GHZ

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

More Info:

A turned the sound off and set the resolution to the lowest setting and its the same. When I am in a small closed off area its great, but when there is a large open area it struggles.

Side Question: When I first installed the video card, the nvidia icon was in the menu tray so i could adjust the settings but is no longer there. How do I get it back?

74 GB HD

thanks

Is this a new problem? Were you fine before, then this just popped up or has it always been this way?
To get your icon back there should be some option in the nvidia menu. I don't know how it looks anymore since they just overhauled it.
Back to the problem:
If you just recently changed something, like adding a wireless connection or something, then try undoing and see if that helps. Also you say online, but does the problem show itself offline, too or only when playing via net?

Yuor CPU and GFX card are shyte to be blunt. The GF4 MX was never a gaming card even when it was released as new onto the market way back when and it's nowhere even near acceptable as a gaming card for todays games.

I'm shocked you get frame rates of 10fps. I wouldn't be surprised if you told me your machine lags playing solitaire tbh.

Anyway....

You want to play pc games you're gonna have to think about spending money.

Ah, don't be so hard on him wolfy :). He's just trying to play MOH and UT2K4. Not like he's asking why he can't play Oblivion or FEAR.
Seriously though, wolfy makes a good point. Your hardware is seriously out of date. Just a new graphics card would help out. Keep your eyes open on the ebay. I just picked up a new x800 for $20.

yeah it has always done this. the reason i thought it was something else was it was like this always, but then when the video card, no matter how crappy, was added it should have helped right? but yeah thanx anyway.

Yeah, adding a video card should have helped. I can run UT ~30fps with a geforce3 on an old dell machine I've got kicking around. Are your motherboard drivers up to date?
