I have just formated, and installed windows, as well as Bf2; however, it refuses to run.
It will display the splash, and the screen will switch as if its trying to start bf2, then it will crash to desktop. SP2 hasnt been installed, and forsome reason that also refuses to install.

A couple of things to try:
-Run a google search for uninstalling InstallShield--I've heard of problems with BF2's installer; if you run the patches in the wrong order can corrupt InstallShield. It's a simple thing to do but I can't remember how to do it right now.
-Type this into Google: "Crash to desktop after splash screen in BF2" or something like that--you should get some hits, some of them may tell you to dig in the registry.
I had to do stuff like this a couple of reinstalls back--it was a real PITA and I wish I could tell you exactly what to do but this should get you started in the right direction. Also search the forums on planetbattlefield.com and totalbf2.com. Good luck, and next time remember to install all your OS updates first.
If you've just done a reinstall of Windows, perhaps you can re-format and reinstall once more rather than try to fix this problem; it will probably save you time in the long run. And make sure to do the updates before you install any software this time.
Yeah, it still wont install any of the service packs, infact; in the event that one is installed, it askes for the computer to reboot, then I am given an ntfs error.
your HD is on the fritz. I'd try a total reformat again. Delete the partition and do a full format and avoid the quick format. If your windows is doing the same thing then the problem is your HD and it needs to go to HD heaven. HD's now adays are not that expensive. you can get a 320GB Western Ditigal Caviar Sata drive for $110 bucks at NewEgg.
yep me too. getting a new HDD isn't an expensive upgrade. It just seems like your current one is reaching it's prime. Either that or the Windows disc your using screwed up and not installing properly.
