I just connected a Cannon MP 730 to my PC. An icon appears in the lower right corner for the "Safe removal for Mass Storage device". Is this the usual? Thanks, Mike.

Mike.
I think that your PC is reading the memory card component of your printer as an external hard drive. If you have a memory stick/card installed in the printer (it might be true if there are no cards/sticks installed), it will show up as another drive in "My Computer" on your PC. So you can transfer card contents to your HD faster.
