hm, my computer now boots up, and post goes ok. But afterward, my computer locks before it can load windows XP (used to have win98se, and it did the same thing)
It just goes to a black screen with a white blinking cursor (like in DOS) in the upper left corner and sits there.

Is it possible for a computer virus to damage RAM permanently? Or a motherboard? I'm running out of ideas as to why this keeps happening.

oh yeah, I got a
ABit KG7
AMD AthlonXP 1800
PC2100 DDR 256MB
Geforce3
Western Digital 13gig HD, also switched the HD with a seagate 8.4 gig and had the same problem still

Your comp's specs?

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

Also, I had a similar problem a few months ago. After switching out the RAM, it started workign fine. Only to start up with the same problem again a couple months later. I'm on my 3rd stick of RAM, and I find it hard to believe I'm just coincedentally buying bad RAM. Any suggestions?
