I've built a couple of PC's in the last few months with no problems. The one I'm building today won't start. The green light on the MB turns on but no fan on the power supply etc.
I just purchased the following:
1 ASUS P4B533-VM
1 Intel P4 1.6a CPU (fan, etc.)
1 enlight Case (P4 rated)
1 256 MB DDR Ram
Disk drive, etc.
I received a replacement MB (ordered everything from NewEgg.com) and it does the same thing- green light comes on but no PS fan, etc. I tested the CPU in another PC and it comes up just fine. I tried the MB in another PC and it failed in the same way (though I didn't connect any wires except the power supply and I checked it with/without memory).
One obvious choice is the PS but I don't have an easy way to test (except disassemble the other P4 system). A couple of questions:
1) This MB used DDR memory. I purchased (1) 256 MB. I didn't think DDR required pairs- am I correct?
2) Should the PS fan start if the MB has only CPU and memory connected (and PS connection) i.e. no drives, power button on front, etc.?
3) Any chance the CPU is somehow not matched for the MB?
4) I purchased 2700 memory (vs. 2100). Could this be an issue?
5) should the fan start if the MB does not have memory in it?
I know the CPU is good. I guess I'm trying to narrow it down to the PS, memory or MB.
You need to hit the power button in order to turn it on. That would imply you've connected it.
I'll tell you what, send me all the parts and I will assemble it for the nominal fee of $40. If a part is bad, I will tell you exactly which one and how to replace it.
Did you try PC2100 or PC1600 RAM? If you check ASUS's website, it don't say that P4B533 will support PC2700. (http://www.asus.com/mb/socket478/p4b533-vm/overview.htm)
If you find out what problem is, please replay this message, because I am thinking about buying a P4B533, but not sure if it will support PC2700.
I recently assembled a system with an Asus A7v333 board and got the same symptoms: Motherboard LED came on, but no fans, no hard disk spinup, no post beeps or boot screens. I sent it back and BZboyz says it was fine. If you find the solution to this problem, please post it here!
same thing happened after the machine was running fine for a year. led on but no action... everything looks mint although the processor heat exchanger was all plugged up with dust and the fans on the machine were huge, the owner says it just stopped working P all the components seem fine but plan to test them 1 by 1 on another mobo... keep me posted

Any help is appreciated.

Well I've seen this before.... make sure you're LED/PWRSWTCH/Reset cords are plugged into the correct palces on the motherboard. I'm sure you do, but, yeah make sure.
Also, I know you don't want to, but test that PSU in another working machine. It doesn't take THAT much work.
