Debugging; jscript error

Yesterday when I brought up a site after a search on Google, a jscript
error message came up and said it needed to debug.
I told it to go ahead and debug but nothing happened for a long, long
time. Finally I told it to stop. I could not view the site that I was
interested in. What is debugging, how long does it take and what are the
consequences of stopping it?
Thanks.

Rita;

Unless you want to do freelance script debugging.........

Open IE | Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab |
CHECK:
Disable script debugging
[Specifies whether you want to turn off your script debugger, if one is
installed. Script debuggers are used by Web site developers to test programs
and scripts on their Web pages.]
UNCheck:
Display a notification about every script error
[Specifies whether to display the actual script errors when a page does not
appear properly due to problems with its scripting. This feature is off by
default, but is useful to developers when testing Web pages.]
Apply | OK

Rita,

In addition to Wesley's advice:

If the script error occurs on all pages, refresh your scripting engine: [Links Courtesy of MS-MVP Frank Saunders]

Wes, Thank you. I printed your instructions and went to my computer,
followed your instructions and it worked. I was then able to view the
website I wanted. The computer is so frustrating sometimes and the books
I have don't say anything about debugging. So again, I thank you. Rita

Rita;

You're welcome. Come back again, there're people here that know stuff that
hasn't been written in books yet. :)
