missing sound in hl2

My problem is that at any event where the sound produced would come from an in game monitor/tv screen, no sound is produced. Any idea why this might be? could it be my integrated sound card? im stumped 8O
I have tried reinstalling the game to no avail.

it could be that you don't for some reason have the proper codec to decode the audio stream i would check with other forums or this one or possible valve about the problem.

You could also try reinstalling the sound card drivers, and possible installing a mp3/wma codec as well.

other than that i am not sure.
