Anyone interested in finding the SSID can do so readily. There really
is no point to not broadcasting it, and many people report problems with
connection difficulties when the SSID is not broadcast. Security is
improved with MAC address filtering, WEP/WPA, changing the router
default username and password, and changing the IP address block to
something other than the default.

Taking a moment's reflection, Newsgroups Nut mused:

| Is it possible to operate this router in the stealth mode - hiding SSID.
Disabling "Broadcast SSID" is not "operating in stealth mode." Anyone
with the ability to hack WEP codes can detect SSIDs as well whether
broadcast or not. Disabling the broadcast merely makes your wireless
network seemingly invisible to people who cannot hack it anyway.
