Thanks for your input to my earlier posting. I already have McAfee firewall
and McAfee virus protection and installed Spybot as well. I thought my
computer was protected by these. No?
I tried to follow your links to test my firewall, but I didn't know what to
enter relative to this error message I am rec'g. Could you get very
specific? Don't assume I know anything because I don't know much!Appreciate
any add'l help to this newby.

Greetings --

Barbara, please stop "jumping around" and starting different
threads (conversations). It makes if very difficult to determine what
you've already been told and what you've already tried.

If you're receiving messenger service spam popups, then your
firewall is _not_ properly configured.

Whichever firewall you use, be sure to ensure UDP ports 135, 137,
and 138 and TCP ports 135, 139, and 445 are _all_ blocked. You may
also disable Inbound NetBIOS over TCP/IP). You'll have to
follow the instructions from firewall's manufacturer for the specific
steps.

You can test your firewall at:

Symantec Security Check
http://security.symantec.com/ssc/v [...] JEIMXQKCDT

Security Scan - Sygate Online Services
http://www.sygatetech.com/

Gibson Research Shields Up
https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

Simply follow the instructions provided at each site to conduct
the desired tests.

Bruce Chambers

Thank you, Gerry, for the information. I'm fairly new at this posting
business and apologize to all for not following the thread. I didn't think
people would go back to see my follow-up questions. :You have all been most
graciously helpful.

Barbara

Many of those that post regularly use Outlook Express as their news reader. Thus if I post to a thread I can easily check whether there are any further replies to the thread using the "Show Replies to my Messages" view. I do that before looking at new messages.
