I have an ASUS A7M266 (AMD760 chipset) sitting in my closet for a computer I was going to build last winter but I never got around to it. Well I'm going to be building it soon. On Asus's site they say this board will support The Palomino core with BIOS version 1006 and the Throughbread core with the latest BIOS release 1007. Here's my question, currently I have the BIOS loaded from the factory, if I stick a palomino or throughbread processor in there will it atleast boot up (even if improperly detected) so I can flash the BIOS? I only want to buy 1 processor so if a Palomino won't work I'll have to settle for a T-Bird. Also if no one knows off hand, are there any A7M266 owners who'd be will to experiment for me before I make my processor order later this month?

It'll work. The BIOS will just see it as an Athlon at whatever clock speed you get. For the love of God, please don't update the BIOS in a Windows environment.
