It has been a good while since the THG posted a mobo shootout for piv's. With the new 845b chipsets, 533FSB, etc, I am a little lost as to what mobo to get for my new 1.8a or 2.0a system.

What is the current best set? The 845, i850, or is it still the P4X333? And, which mobo is being recommended with that set, specifically an overclocker. I read the chipset articles, but the do not mention any new boards....

TIA!

d00d, it was never the P4X333. The best DDR chipset is the SiS 645DX. The former best was the SiS 645 (without the DX).

The i850E is still better than the DDR chipsets. PC1066 replaced PC800 for RDRAM, and it beets DDR400, plus it can be overclocked to match a 150MHz system bus (AKA QDR600, PC1200).

The best board is probably the Gigabyte GA-8IHXP. The best DDR board is probably the Asus P4S533.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Not any more. RDRAM boards have separate clock generators for the RAM. The TH7-II DRCG's are ratesd at 400MHz, the later boards use 600MHz DRCG's.
