I am having trouble setting up a server for Quake 4.
My Router is the Actiontec MI424-WR. Verizon gave it to me when I upgraded to their FIOS network. (Cool by the way).
Verizon told me that I will have a dynamic IP address however in the 3 weeks I’ve had it, the IP address has not changed. I guess they say that just in case they EVER want to change my IP. The information I found on www.portforward.com was telling me to create a static IP. But I can not do that with my internet service.
The IP address on my router is 72.90.xx.xx. The internal IP on my desktop comp is 192.168.1.2 The internal IP for my router is 192.168.1.1
As far as I know, Quake 4 uses a port of 28004. Is that UDP or TCP?
When I had DSL I had a Westell router and all worked fine for setting up the server. The only thing that changed was my router. I thought I had opened the port on my router.
To be sure, when I give out my IP address to my friends I should give out 72.90.xx.xx But how does their computer know the correct port? When they type in an IP address what should it look like?
I am such I noob I may not even be giving you all the correct information.
