Well, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic recently just opened the public beta multiplayer, and I have never played a game that had such an awesome fighting mechanic. It like revived the moments I had when I first played CS, Starcraft, etc..the classes are all fun to play, and I am just rocking with the Priestess. Who here agrees with me??
And for those who don't have the open beta, well its free now, and you can get it here. I think you may need to register though.
Here's a screenshot of what you can do in game. And its not just chopping heads off either lol
i have downloaded the single player demo but have not played it yet as i got oblvion at the weekend. i keep meaning to load it up. do you know how it compares to oblivion. seeing as how it uses the soure engine for some reason i am expecting it to look better.
StrangeStranger - definitely worth checking out - awesome game - fast fun, varied, good mele combat system, and it looks like the full game will have tons of possibilities (those are it's RPG roots showing).
As far as comparing it to Oblivion - a great game that I fully enjoyed (and I'm not an RPG player - I like action and sims) - I think it will be more focused on combat (or sneaking if that's your bag) and less on jibber-jabber and learning the story and piecing everything together. There will be some ability to shape your character - but not like Oblivion with attributes and skills and subsets and bazillions of items etc.
Graphics wise I'd say it's different - it focuses more on quick combat, but the backgrounds look awesome - I think Oblivion with it's wide open landscapes and very strict attention to minute details has "better" graphics, but Dark Messiah is no slouch and the physics are GREAT...and great fun (think Old School Duke Nukem kicking enemies into each other, boxes, spikes, and fire) - I wanna go play the demo again right now!
ye i gave it a run through and it was pretty good. the kicking part, while needing the right maps to work, is a nice touch. one problem though is that my crossfire ain't working which is a pain. also the lack of console is strange but overall is looks good although not sure if better than oblivion due to it having a more fps than rpg feel.
one good thing is that it shows what can be done with the source engine yet. it has only had a few modifications but is still in essence the source engine which is good. not sure if i'll buy it or not. might do.
