I had been tying to upload new images to my website for three days. After
5-8 minutes, I would receive the error message "The server has unexpectantly
closed the connection" and of course the files would not upload to my site.
After numerous conversations with my host provider who assured me that they
were not closing my connection, my next call was to Microsoft. Fortunately
for me I got a very knowledgeable techie on the other end of the line. After
he tried to troubleshoot FrontPage & WinXP, he finally asked me how I was
connecting to the internet. Told him, wireless-Dlink via fast access. To
make a really long story short, the end result was that if I hardwired my
connection directly to my laptop via the CAt5 cable, (bypassing the Dlink
router) wham, all files uploaded instantaneously. After that test and
finally getting those files uploaded, I reconnected the router to my
computer to once again have wireless access. At 4 AM this morning, I
uploaded 5 files with no problems (via the router connected). At 7AM, I had
one more gif to load and have been trying ever since then, every hour on the
hour. It is now 10:30PM and I still am unable to upload this file (69kb). So
it seems that the router is somehow getting interfered with during normal
waking hours. Do I have to work on my webiste at 3-4:00AM all the time?
Anyone have any clues? Also, the router drops us several times during the
day and we have to do the unplug thing. Thanks anyone.

BTW, I live in the AZ desert on acreage, so its not like I am in a city with
close houses or businesses.

You might want to switch the peramble on the router and the card. D-link
says use a short peramble. I Think long would be better in the case. You
may want to lower to fragmentation on the router to 2100 and RTS to 2300.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I called DLink in the interim and it
seems that my software was a weird version that did not show the MTU box on
the 714 router screen. The techie installed the latest Beta version for the
714P+ and we changed channels to 1. At least my files upload now, but it is
too soon to know if it solves my dropping the connection problem. I have
printed that file from MS that you referenced about dropped connections and
if I continue to drop, I will try that next. At least I can upload files
now! Thanks again.

Some D-Link techs will not support beta firmware. As soon as you tell
them it is a beta they will say sorry.

Just a heads up on it.

Well DLink better support it. It is their Beta software and the Dlink Tech
insisted that it solved a lot of problems and they had not had any problems
with it since they uploaded it to their site in Jan. We shall see.
