trying to get use to it.

well when i was downloading it....it shut down, so now i dont have it, and im not going to waste my time

The thing about the demo is that it is a cut down version of the game. It does not show you anything about the customization of the players, which is actually a very big part of this game. But I do agree that if you don’t like Battle Field 2 you will not like this game, unless you’re a mechwarrior freak.

Reply to cafuddled

Well first, since it hasn't been released yet, I can only give my impressions of the beta, but I think it's great. It played a lot like BF2, but with some interesting additions. I like the fact that they have compressed the classes down into four from the previous six. This will spare us from having 15 Assault/Spec Ops players, and only one Support or Medic player running around. I also like how they've expanded the unlockable weapon/item systems. They now have unlockables that will apply to all classes, or just the particular class you are playing.

The new vehicles, including the mechs are great. But I think the coolest addition are the APC drop pods. Rolling an APC up a ways from an enemy point, and then launching your entire squad and dropping from the sky is fantastic. it's hard to defend against, unless you are very prepared from it.

And the new Titan mode is great too. I'm sure it's been said before, but going from the wide open spaces of the battlefield to the tight confines of the Titan is great.

I'm definitley looking forward to the game.

The ideas of the game are good, shame Dice and EA and making it.
BF2 IS fun not doubt about it, regardless of the bugs and exploiters it is modern warfare condensed down into fun gaming.

BF2142 is abit odd in my opinion. Yea I love mechas and I'm a massive sci-fi fan, its just that large scale sci-fi fps doesn't quite see3m right to me. For one I havent yet killed anyone using a handheld soldier weapon. Dont like the recoil effects there and I can't chose any grenades or any of the extra things in the kit selection list.
OK that may be because its a demo but I would've thought with their dire reputation on BF2 Dice and EA would want customers to get a better idea of what they're being offered here.

Have yet to play it with a large number of people, so I'll hae another go an see of the large scale battles are like (Karkand streets are the most unforgiving battle-grounds I've ever come across, aside from Ghost Recon:Advanced Warfight with 3 tanks after you  )

i have BF2 and it's cool

but the BF 2142 good

i like it ..!!

Reply to dxbboy77

After testing the 3 betas it has come a long way. They have some room for improvement but it actually isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Reply to danny9894

I like it.

The sound is what i most liked about. Its great.
All the new deep sounds of the weapons....nice.

The mecha is cool but not useful.

Over all it fells more like mod than a new game but with good BF madness

i would save you money for Quake wars.. because battlefield has ads and spyware. http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/06/10/17/1319235.shtml

if you have to pay good money for a game it should not have ads or other strings attached..

i would like it if i wasn't one of the people getting disconncts every 3 minutes.

Yeah, it probably doesn't have the spyware built in.

Boycott the game!

Reply to llama_man

I am surprised this is not being discussed more! I was totally shocked when I read about this yesterday! adware intentionally installed with a game you paid for?? I could see as a new purchasing/marketing model if they made the game free, but a purchaser has already PAID for the game!

If the game was free I would not be angry about it, but I would still not play it because I am offended at the concept of trying to sell me stuff while I play games.

I have been playing the demo and it is okay (although I cannot figure out whey they made grenades and shock paddles unlockable items, that's retarded). I was considering buying BF2142, but now forget it, NEVER. The idea of paying-per-month for a game used to bother me a lot, but at least they are honest and you know how much you're paying and what software you're installing. This is ugly, and disgraceful.

I hope EA completely goes under. I was angry enough at the extremely glitchy BF2, horrible programming and resetting a friend's account 3x without explanation so he could stop doing something wrong he was not aware of.

Reply to torque79

I'm away to see if I can buy this game today, maybe the add thing will be an option... I have to admit though that adverts based on things today in a game that is based 143 years in the future does seem kind of stupid.

But you also need to be realistic here, do you really think that hackers will let this go on. There will be a no advert crack within a matter of weeks, if not days... you will see.

Reply to cafuddled

EA has a warning that modifying this software is a violation of the EULA. If you buy the retail version, there is a white piece of paper inside which tells you about this software being present. Even if hackers found a way around it for every patch after a few months, do you really feel happy buying a game from a company which forces you to take these actions?

I read about them also planning to implement a check when you login to their servers to ensure the adware software is operating properly on your pc, or it will not allow you to login at all (although you could play single player, yay).

Now, imagine if you bought and installed 5-10 games in the future which do the same thing. that would be 5-10 resident adware programs constantly monitoring you and sending data through the internet. would that not bother you? who cares if you find ways around them, don't buy the game for the principle of the thing.

Reply to torque79

At the end of the day I don’t really care, I will play it regardless of what they put in the box. After all if I don’t like it I will uninstall it and take it back to GAME to get a full refund. Besides my PC only gets used for 3 things. Games, Movies and porn and I have to admit it would be rather comical having a porn advert put on an advert in the game.

Reply to cafuddled

This must be the stupidest thing EA has done. I was ok with the in game advertisement because I really do not care what they advertise, but monitoring where I go online, this is unacceptable, too bad I preordered it at Amazon and now I have to wait to get it and ship it right back.

Reply to rush_123

yeah, chalk me up for the boycott. EA can consume my wee-wee on this one. I hope the burn for this. btw spread the word everyone here should go directly to the ea forum and type their mind on this one. if you aren't registered yet, this is reason enopught to do so.

also, can we get a poll goin about this?

Now that there is spyware in the game, will you buy it?

apparently there's a site in holland with this poll and it's pullin':
86% nay
14% yay.

music to my ears.

Reply to Chef_Boyardee

the EA forums were down yesterday I think it was, and their explanation of why is the bandwidth is being killed by the new BF2142 Beta patch release. Laughable. the bandwidth can be capped for the downloads so it would'nt kill the whole forums, I think they were trying to quiet the extreme backlash from angry consumers on the forums.

I did register on their forums a while back, now I have another reason to post there! Funny it's never a positive reason.

Reply to torque79

dont buy it it has spyware in it :( , one of the reasons i cancled my preorder

Reply to illuminatirex

Well got it last night and played it for a few hours, never even seen one advert what so ever. As for the spy ware… there is nothing that runs it’s self on the system and on top of that I am told that all the ‘apparent’ spy ware does is report back to the company that is doing all the advertising about how long you looked at the advert or if you looked at them at all.

Reply to cafuddled

you're right, some assumptions were made about the nature of the information sent back to the advertising agency. However, it does not matter. My gaming experience should have nothing to do with advertising. If it does, why did I pay for it? Would it not piss you off if you bought a set of TV Show DVD's (let's say Family Guy for example), and there were commercials during the show?

I understand there are not a LOT of ads in the game. For most people they probably would not even notice, we are so bombarded all the time in our lives. But, if we do not react strongly when this kind of thing gets started, it WILL get worse because we accept its prescence early on.

Hopefully, if people complain enough and make a big enough stink, it will at least delay games with a commercial for pizza after I blow up a tank.

Reply to torque79

the actual "spyware" is integrated in to thegame, so if u would use a spyware remover like lets say spy sweeper or such it might not detect it, unles theyl make some update, but i doubt it because of the integration :(

Reply to illuminatirex

That’s a good point, where I live product placement in TV shows is banned from all shows made in the UK. I don’t know about this effecting games but I sure some agency will get the pound signs in there eyes about this (not dollar signs, UK you see) and apply to regulate game advertising.

Reply to cafuddled

lol just another thing that i like abou tuk lol

Reply to illuminatirex

i play with an LCD and like most, my native resolution 1280*1024. I noticed that I cant play on that resolution. The highest the game has is 1280*960.
It looks like crap. I just read an article on Guru3d.
http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/386/11/

They said this...

"BTW the game by itself does not support these high resolutions, but simply make a little .bat file and insert the following:

bf2 +menu 1 +szx 2560 +szy 1600 +fullscreen 1"

According to this its possible to play at 1280*1024 if i wanted to.
Can ANYONE tell me how to do this or how to play and higher resolutions?

Reply to cherie22984

its simple m8 just right click on the shortcut to the game insert that without quotes and ur good to go the game will automaticaly change it u dont ned to go to video options i used tha t for the demo

enjoy

Reply to illuminatirex

Just to clarify if you wanted 1280X1024 it would be:

+menu 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024 +fullscreen 1

Reply to cafuddled

are you kidding me?? One of the newest games on the market does not have 1280x1024 support, which is the most commonly used LCD screen resolution now? That blows my mind, what the heck were they thinking??

Good job EA. yet another reason to laugh at them.

Reply to torque79

lol what did u expect lol its ea ;)

Reply to illuminatirex

Not impressed. I like BF2 much better. Game play is good, but the look of the graphics is not good at all. I have the Core2 X6800 and the ATI X1900XTX so I can max everything out and it just looks poor when compared with BF2 or the other high end games out right now.

How can you agree when you have not played the buggering game, “amen” has this become the church forum or something where you don’t even need to post any substance anymore?

http://www.filecloud.com/img/sized [...] 003437.jpg

You look at these screen shots and you will agree that they look similar but that is because Battlefield 2142 only builds upon the Battle Field 2 engine. But the Battlefield 2142 does have graphics advantages over Battlefield 2 with lighting and shadows, so on paper the graphics are better.

So all you can really take in to account is personal taste, weather you like the futuristic style that the game is set in. I do and I find this game hugely more enjoyable than Battlefield 2 ever was. I’ll quote a review, “Battlefield 2142 is like an adrenalin shot to Battlefield 2”.

Reply to cafuddled

btw i didnt say "amen" ;), and in regards to that adrenaline quote i have to agree, bf2142 has more "action" in it than bf2 but i guess thats because of the titan mode, which u have to act in fast, especially when shields are down, and besided its easier to die, (not necesarly easier to kill) in it, compared to bf2 ;)

Reply to illuminatirex

Never mentioned that you said it, the other guy did. But anyway the more action is not down to the fact that it has a titan mode it is down to the fact that it is made better and all the weapons and vehicles are harder to take down while making them not as good at taking infantry down. Air units are also no longer overpowering since it takes about 2 flyovers to kill enemy armour and can be taken down in a single EMP blast that does not destroy the air vehicle but makes the engines loose power and plummet to the ground.

You will also notice if you play the game a lot in conquest that the maps are much better designed, so much so that you feel like your in a real war zone. There is one map in the game where it forces the attacking team to squeeze through one control point before you can get any of the others. That single point is complete with bunkers and trenches which almost makes the game feel like a futuristic world war… hold on it is!

Basically Battlefield 2142 is natural evolution to the franchise, it has taken what Battlefield 2 had and made it better… still not perfect, but much better.

Reply to cafuddled

do you work for EA? seriously, your last two posts sounded like advertising. :)

Anyways, you have not mentioned any bugs? have a look at youtube and see the list of problems and bugs all over the game. walking through walls by shooting them in certain spots, being able to fall into walls from airplanes and still being able to shoot people, being able to get into the titan reactor room without destroying any terminals, titan artillery shot spamming glitch, and the list goes on.

They seem to be totally inept at programming. Plus, the game is obviously incomplete, having put in a small number of maps and just leaving the game totally open for more "booster packs" and expansions to make the game a virtual pay-per-month.

In the midst of your crying, could you not realize I typed that to agree with the fact that 1280x1024 wasn't a selectable reso? Jeez.

Reply to Chef_Boyardee

I am terribly sorry natural instinct would dictate to me that you where replying to the post it was directly below.

Reply to cafuddled

I have been playing 2142 since it came out, and it flat out ROCKS. I have played all the games in the bf series and think it is the best yet.

Reply to sirvent67

have they fixed any bugs yet? how many new ones did they introduce with their patches? Have they released a patch yet that randomly crashes servers?

EA makes the most buggy, unfinished code of any game developer.

Reply to torque79

Nope they have actually done fairly well with their work and this is more than likely one of the most stable versions of any Battle Field yet. Just stop moaning and actually play the game then you will cease to moan afterwards.

Reply to cafuddled

I have played it, single player and via lan, and also the beta. I found it annoying that basic things like grenades and healthpacks were unlockable items?? I did not find anything which made me want to buy the game and be potentially disappointed.

also, I have a moral issue with buying EA, since a friend of mine had his BF2 account reset something like 4 or 5 times and they would not tell him why. He said the only time he was aware he did something wrong was when he was having fun with some server-wide knife fighting, which of course is seen as exploiting to get the knifing badges, so his first account reset was legit.

I played with him many times, and he was just very good at the game. he was a fantastic helicopter pilot (among the best), and a really amazing squad leader. Yet, he was punished over and over. He kept asking what he's doing wrong so he can stop, and EA said they cannot tell him because people might use that knowledge to abuse exploits. He is'nt getting his rank and unlocks repeatedly reset because he wants to use exploits!!!

After all that, I also read some unbelievable accounts of how EA used to treat their programmers. I understand some changes have been made, but do not know how much they are improved. It does not matter to me, any company that treats their employees like CRAP does not deserve my money, even if they make the BEST products. There was a letter sent in by a programmer's wife to EA and it was published all over the internet about the INSANE hours they were working with NO overtime pay. We're talking LIVING at work 7 days a week for months, with no overtime.

I realize that's a bit of a diversion from the particular game topic at hand, but I feel it's related to any discussion of an EA game. they deserve to burn as a company for so many reasons.

Reply to torque79

Honestly it just doesn't feel as polished as BF2. The graphics are about the same with a few new lighting effects thrown around here and there. A few additions are worthwhile:

Remote Spawn Beacon - going back and playing BF2 I keep wishing I had this when I'm squad leader

Better custimization of your soldier

A better emphasis on squad and commander play, "you'll never climb the ranks as a lone wolf anymore with the bonus points"

On the down side....

All flying vehicles suck, the battlewalkers are highly overrated, and most of the tanks just seem too slow. The other complaint I have is the control just doesn't seem as tight or responsive as BF2, oh and there aren't enough maps....

I know my gunner would disagree with that, 49 and 3.. it's just alot of people don't know how to fly them, granted, the AH-1Z was way better (Its hard to flip the gunship back upside right, but it flies good upside down). What sucks is the buggy hit boxes, and buggy SAAW AA portable that won't lock on 30% of the time, where's the challenge in that!

I can't play normal bf2 without getting bored, First sargeant with 8 or 9k points to go to the next rank, or 3k to get to brig general hmm.
