i just bought a new xp pro laptop. the taskbar works differently than i am
used to with other xp pro machines.

the taskbar groups multiple instances of apps into a single rectangle.

i can click on the rectangle to select the instance i want to view.

but i prefer separate rectangles.

how to reconfigure ?

Right-click the taskbar, and then click Properties. On the
Taskbar tab, click to clear the "Group similar taskbar buttons"
check box, and then click Apply. For more information search the
Windows XP Professional Help and Support Center for the words in
double-quotes and read the Full-text Search Matches titled: "To
group taskbar buttons by program"
