Don't step in the sarcasm!
It's no biggie, companies alway's try to scramble to patent anything possible. It's part of buisness, they patent anything from methods of doing buisness to basket weaving techniques. The larger you get the more patent's you need.
Most larger companies have patent lawyers working around the clock looking for anyone coming near their patents. Not only do they use offensively but defensively as well. Nvidia, IBM, AMD, Intel, Via, MS are far worse than Rambus or Creative when it comes to suing companies for various patent infringments. It's just that you typically dont hear about all of the suits that go on or the backdoor agreements and money exchanges between companies. People hate Rambus, Creative, MS and Intel and swear they wont use their products due their shady buisness practices. IBM's or Sony's tactic blow these companies shady dealings by far. It's not really a big deal, it's just part of modern buisness, these people are out to make money not be honorable with the competition.
