I have a P3 800 now. And I am thinking of getting another computer.

I am planning to get a althon xp1800+. My question is that if it is worth getting a 333 m/b or 266 is good enough?? I am thining of getting 266DDR ram only since I don't believe the it is worth the price diff between 333 and 266 RAM.

Note that most 333 m/b have USB2.0, ATA133, etc...

Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance. =)

DDR 333 boards still support PC2100 RAM. If you get one you aren't forced to have to also spend extra getting PC2700 RAM.

This little cathode light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine!

Well I think it is. I recently bought a new system. Before I had a Pent. III 600Mhz. So more or less I know were you are coming from. I bought an Althon XP 1900+ (cos I like round numbers 1,6Ghz) with a ASUS A7V333-Raid motherboard and a 512MB PC2700 DDR RIMM for my new hardware. The rest I allready had. 2 Maxtor HDD 40Gb, and a Winfast Geforce3 Ti200 128MB. But I can asure you you will know the difference, see, feel and smily at the difference. new things like 333Mhz, 2.0 USB( when you have a mp3-player, webcam, digital camera or exsternal-disks you will know the difference) and ATA 133 (UDMA 6) for fast speeds with you Harddisk will give you a new feel fo PC-systems.

I'm very happy with my new hardware. Software on my new system run's like a speedingtrain. All good.

Why don't you go to a computerstore and see for your self. I didn't because Tom's reviews are innuf for me to know what I need to buy. But you never know.

But I warn you VT400 is coming soon. Apollo 400 from VIA.
This is the upgrade from VT333 more speed for the memory runs at 400Mhz instead of 333Mhz.
I couldn't wait that long, and don't need it now.

PentIV only works best on PC600/800/1060 memory, and no one I know can pay for these memory RIMM's. So I leave the choice to you.

With a Via KT333 chipset board you'll see 5-10% increase going from 266 to 333 memory. With the SiS 745 there is no improvement running async (266/333 FSB/memory). You'll only get full bang for your buck running 333 memory if you OC the FSB and run sync.
