I can't say I've ever gotten around to trying out Silent Hill, but I can say that the early Resident Evil games were decent & Resident Evil 4 takes a clean sweep on the past console generation in terms of gameplay.

You should try out silent hill 4 (THE ROOM)
or Clock tower 3 (ps2)

SH4 was supposed to be a bit shit but deffo SH over Res. I haven't played 4 but any other Res game has lasted all of 10 minutes before I get bored. It's not scary and I don't like the game.
