Hi There

I have just upgraded from Win 98 to Win XP on my machine its an AMD
motherboard with 2800 chipset the problem I have is this, sometimes the
computer will reset it self and when I log in it is saying that new hardware
has been found which the Universal Serial Bus controllers my question is
this if I need to do a clean install of Win XP isit safe to format the c:
drive without affecting the BIOS or can I just delete the Universal Serial
Bus controllers from the device manager and restart windows XP and then
reinstall the Universal Serial Bus controllers

Formatting a hard drive has no impact on the BIOS - what makes you think it
does?

You can boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, and remove any and all USB
controllers. When you reboot and let XP start normally it will detect the
USB controllers and install the drivers - you do not have to install them
yourself, it's automatic.

Some boards, intels newer, the usb controller has to be installed manually,
locate the controller in device mgr.,other devices i believe, then update the
drivers within xp.Some boards need the INF software also, the chip mfg
would have those downloads.
