Just bought a ECS K7S5A with 1600+, Micron 265 2100, antec 350, G4 4200, IBM deskstar 40GB 120gxp. Win xp.
System is very unstable when in Ultra DMA but works fine
in PI0 mode.
I have tried changing memory & PSU. I also tried older
Hard drive I had laying around IBM 12GB Mode 2.
same problem. any help would be nice

Is the instability continuous in all CD or hard drives?

Try each of them seperately.

Hi,
DVD is on secondary ide controler & runs in U DMA Mode 2
without a problem so far. I tried the DVD on primary
ide in mode 2 as slave & so far it runs fine. I don't get it. I would think it would mean that the Hard Drive was
no good but I had problems with the IBM 12GB Hard Drive.

Check your cable, pins, and drive jumpers.

I changed cable & checked pins, all are ok. Jumper is set to Master.
