I have run into my first issue with my PS3. Kind of a interesting issue and happens with more than 3 different controllers. I have only noticed it while playing 2 games "Ridge Racer 7" & "Need for Speed Carbon” Now these games require just about 100% throttle and stirring so I can see why the issue is apparent on these games rather than Resistance or any other non racing game.
Issue: Game controller loses connection for about 1 ½ sec’s to 2 sec’s in mid game at non incremental time periods, and than connects back perfectly fine. I know it has something to do with the Bluetooth connection as a USB direct connect seems to resolve the issue.
These are some of the things I have done to troubleshoot the issue.
1.) Tried multi "Sony Brand" controllers
2.) Made sure controllers were fully charged
3.) Sat 3' from the unit
4.) Tried it on 3 different consoles
I am not sure if this is just an isolated issue or not, but I have sent a message to Sony “in hopes of a response” if anyone else has this issue please post here.

I E-mailed Sony at the PS3 website and they e-mailed me back within 3 hours with info requesting how they can get a hold of me by phone. I gave them a call at the number they provided “as that was easier for me” and went on a Q&A spree for the last hour. From the sounds of it I have been one of the only people to physically report this issue to Sony. I was able to give them the serial numbers of my Sony controllers and they were able to recreate the error themselves... I don't think this is a Patch fix, unless they can magically fix the Bluetooth chip in the system or upgrade the BT chip in the controllers. This bug is one that will stay with first Gen release consoles for time to come. At the end of the call I was suddenly disconnected and am waiting to get a representative again...
Honestly this issue to me isn’t that huge as I don’t see issues in the games I play all the time. Ridge Racer 7 was my biggest issue game on this, and if people want competitive online gaming “like I think some might” this issue could hamper them for any successful wins if it occurs at the wrong moments. But that is easily avoided by using the USB cable that came with the controller. But than again that defeats the point of having a BT controller right? But I also have to think you don’t go to a FPS tournament on a wireless laptop with a wireless mouse in the finals. In all it is one more issue for Sony to look at and fix....
