The Wii is here, and so are plenty of launch titles. In part 1 of this series, TwitchGuru breaks down four games to see how they make use of the Wii's motion sensor capability and unique Wii Remote and Nunchuck controllers. First up are Wii Sports, Red Steel, Call of Duty 3 and Excite Truck.

I found it highly ironic that Twilight Princess's controls suffered almost to the extreme in terms of the analog stick & some of the other buttons, but the motion sensor controls were nearly perfect. It seemed backwards to me, especially since all three previous 3D Zelda games had the classic control aspects perfected beyond the point you could notice them at.

Monkey Ball is easily the weakest of the games I own. Even so, the controls are very natural & skill transfers directly over from the two original games on GCN without any need to think about the new control scheme. Except the jump. Again a non-motion control. Again the awkward feel. I'm noticing a pattern here when motion controls cross with the analog stick or digital controls...

Wii Sports was my favorite game for a while, & is still my 2nd favorite on the system. The controls (while somewhat simplified) are almost all very precise, though there's more of a delay than in other games, which can be slightly annoying. You get used to it quick enough though. But (& I know this is entirely my fault in this case) in bowling you have to hold the B button down in conjunction with the motion controls. Sometimes this doesn't work quite as well as it might. I was beginning to think that motion controls couldn't work in conjunction with any of the other controls until...

Trauma Center: Second Opinion. Coincidential name too...?_?... The controls are PERFECT. There's no other way to describe it. It feels just like a game like this should. I'm actually very glad I waited so long that I never got the DS version. It's my favorite game on the console. Perfect precision. Absolutely perfect motion control. It's amazing.

Though I'm still baffled as to how I truly ended up with this console... I'll definitely keep it.

The local WalMart has had plenty of remotes and accidentally priced them 1/2 off so I grabbed a handful. Many titles in stock too. No consoles anywhere around here though. A GameStop manager said he was told that his store would receive more Wiis than they could sell before Christmas but it hasn't happened. If you want to spend $500, ebay has more than you can shake a stick at. Is this a racket or what?

Yeah, the accessories are mostly in stock & the games are definitely in stock around here. The consoles? Not so much. Given how many people I know of who want one & don't have one, I'd say that's not going to change any time soon.
