Belkin 54g wireless access point freezing

Hey all,

I have my wireless access point plugged into my vigor2600 plus
ADSL router, configured my belkin 54g notebook card, all looked
good. Tested the connection for a while and things seemed nice
and fast so I decided to introduce some security. Ran windows
update on the laptop to install support for WPA, enabled this
with AES encryption and the same at the AP. All seemed to be
working well for about an hour then the access point froze, the
orange activity light was solidly lit. I removed and reapplied
power and all was ok again for another few hours, then another
freeze. On resetting the AP, within seconds it froze again. I am
now trying the setup without any encryption to see if I can rule
this out as being the problem. Has anyone else heard of such
problems with WPA/AES using this AP?

TIA

Mark

I am currently using the Belkin 54g router (5FD7230-4) as an access
point. It is attached to my Netgear WGR614v1 (Wireless disabled). My
notebook card is the Netgear WG511T. My security settings are as
follows: WPA-PSK (AES) I have yet to have any problems. My AP has yet
to freeze up or drop a signal and I've had this particular setup for
months. One thing to note, though is the fact that I do not use the
Windows XP WZC. I use the Netgear config that came with my notebook
card. It's great and easy to setup and navigate. One complaint,
though, the Netgear config is not friendly to accounts that do not
have admin privileges.

Hmmm my friend is using the same belkin notebook card as me but the AP
with built in router, possibly the same model as yours? He is
experiencing the same problems as me only he can still contact the web
interface when his connection gets dropped. I can't and actually have
to power it down. I wonder if it's related to the belkin notebook
card...

Same here. The notebook card seems particularly prone to bringing-down the
network.

But I've noticed that it's OK if it's the *only* network adaptor in
operation. But then I have the laptop and my desktop working at the same
time, the network can go down six times an hour.

I was thinking of using Windows wireless networking software (XP SP2). Do
you think that this would help?

Hmmm (again), what equipment have you got Bobby? Mine hasn't dropped
once since I removed security altogether. Introduce WPA and freezing
occurs within minutes. I have 3 other PCs on the network (wired) and
haven't been able to trap it down to activity on these. They can be
idle infact when this AP freezes. I am just banking on there being no
one sniffing around here with a wireless card :).

No security here either. I lose the line so often I can't risk security!

I'm using a Belkin modem/router and Belkin desktop/laptop cards. All 54g.
Everything fine if only one PC/laptop working but bug problems when 2 or 3
machines using the network at the same time.

I'm not using Windows networking (only Belkin's own drivers) and I tempted
to use the wireless networking in SP2 to see if this helps.

Ahhh I see...

I wonder if SP2 will help my security problem. My uptime is now 3 days
so I'm pretty certain there is nothing wrong hardware wise. I am using
the belkin access point plugged into my vigor2600 plus router. Does
your router/access point have the latest firmware installed?

On a bad night, my uptime is about 3 minutes with more than one PC
connected.

I have the latest firmware.

I think I'll give Windows XP SP2 wireless networking a go...

Damn, you'll have to let me know how that goes. I'm not holding out
much hope for it helping with my WPA problem.... :(
