I am absolutely outraged. Have a sony laptop FX170K - 14 mo old. The mainboard went bad and I called Sony to order a new one. They refuse to send me one - only they can replace it, they say. Yah, at the same time they will charge me for labor - diagnostics/replacement (and probably shipping costs).
It is outrageous that Sony sells products for which they refuse to supply parts. I will never buy SONY again.
Does anybody know where I can buy a motherboard that will fit my laptop (PCG-FX170K). Dop not care if it is Sony.
Help please. I would rather trash the current one, than to feel forced to pay even penny to them. Plamen
ummmm... Have you ever serviced a laptop? If so, you're a better man than me. They're EXTREMELY difficult to service. I consider myself pretty handy building desktops, and I wouldn't think twice about paying them the money to do the mobo replacement. Just my $0.02
It's always the one thing you never suspected.
Thanks for the response. I am pissed by them forcing me to send it to them. Money does not matter much here (mobo~7-900$ +/- 150 labor - the question is the principle: called the parts dept. and they refused to send it. They gave me "customer relations" - stayed on a que for 25 min. The fact that Sony is forcing me to do something is driving me nuts. Had Toshiba laptop before - it was n't so bad - replaced hd and power pannel. If I cannot do it, will take it to a local shop (my choice). Do you know where I can get mobo? thanks again
That's a big OUCH price on that motherboard, considering I can buy the whole system for under $1000, and the screen is worth more than the motherboard.
At least half of all problems are caused by an insufficient power supply!
