Could a KT333 mobo support a FSB333 CPU?

I've noticed that when setting the CPU External Clock for some KT333 mobos it ranges between 100-166. So if it is 166, thus resulting a 333 CPU FSB, does this mean that the mobo could support a (theoretical) 333 FSB CPU or it's only for overclocking today's 266 FSB XPs?

Hey G,

It doesn't matter...........Your system is only as fast as the slowest component. In this case the AMD Athlon XP does not support anything other than a 133 CPU Bus. Yes, you can over clock your FSB & run the XP higher than 133.....is it supported-No. All KT333 chipset mobos offer a Asymetrical Memory bus that can be run at 33/66 mhz higher than the CPU Bus. It still does not help the over-all system performance much.

My example on why the bios has these options/settings is: My cars speedometer goes up to 185 mph, so my car must be able to drive at 185 mph if I floor it.

Peace Out...............tile

I meant this : If AMD will design&build a FSB 333 CPU in the future (not the XP, maybe the Hammer) will it work on a KT333 mobo that supports a 333 FSB.

Dood, ANY chipset and board that will allow you to overclock to 166MHz FSB will do that, even the KT266A, ALi MAGiK 1, and SiS 735/745. All of these. Look at the specs on the Iwill XP333 board as an example, the "333" is only achievable on that board when you overclock your FSB to 166MHz. Personally, I see a lot of merit in the SiS 745 chipset.

Hey G,

All the Durons, Athlons, & Athlon XPs are "Socket A" CPU's & run a 100 or 133 mhz CPU Bus. The new 64 bit Oberons/Hammers will use a Different Socket altogether. I have not read what the CPU bus will be yet, hopefully it will be higher than 133mhz.

The answer: Yes, AMD will design & build a Faster FSB CPU........but No, it will not work in a any KT333 mobo.
