A7S333

I have a big problem with Asus A7S333. My machine shotdown and/or freeze sametimes in the BIOS, sametimes in boot. I tried the following one:

Basic Machime:
Asus A7S333
MSI G4Ti4400-VTD MS-8871 128MB DDR

I changed the following components:

CPU Athlon XP 2100+ AX2100DMT3C (in-a-box)
CPU Athlon XP 1600+ AX1600DMT3C (green) AVC-112BJ0
CPU Athlon XP 1600+

nVidia G-Force 2 MX 32MB

Power Supply 350W
Power Supply 400W (P4)

Memory 256 MB DDR 2100 Toshiba - TC59WM807BFT-80
Memory 256 MB DDR 2100 Elixir - N2DS12H80AT-75B
Memory 256 MB DDR 2100 Samsung

BIOS 1002
BIOS 1003

In all the cases, using nomal configurations the problem repeats. But if I configure for example the XP 2100+ (1733/133) for 1300/100 the machine work fine.

Only Durom 1Ghz works without problem in this mobo. It was with it that I update the BIOS 1002 for 1003.

Someone can help me?

  1. 1. Make sure you have a power supply unit delivering at least 350W.
    2. Try changing memory settings to be set by SPD.
    3. Try changing "Plug and Play OS" to "No".

This little cathode light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine!
  2. Problem solved. I'm try modify one by one options on BIOS and disabling "Plug and Play OS", all work fine.

    ??? Why ???

    Thanks...

  3. You probably had two devices sharing an IRQ in Windows that really didn't like each other. When you set PNP OS to NO, BIOS configures those devices instead, and BIOS is better at it.

At least half of all problems are caused by an insufficient power supply!
  4. Yes, there is a problem with this board and PnP. I think the beta 1004.001 bios fixes this, but it shouldn't matter if the OS can handle interrupt assignment. I would also recommend a 1:1 fsb:memory ratio (rather than auto) since it seems not to handle async very well either.
  5. Can I install XP pro with bios set to PnP disabled? I've read it must be enabled. Thanx for any and all input, I'm having exactly the same prob.

  6. Gee, I don't know, it works with Win98SE! LOL, XP is supposed to be soooooo much better...
