My local Target has been steadily getting 4 to 6 new PS3 consoles every Saturday for the last 3 weeks. I was able to score a few for friends as I like to shop early this time a year. There are usually lines with people looking for all sorts of items, but the manager will come out and ask who is waiting for Wii's and PS3's and he hands out numbers, 2 Saturday's in a row I got a number and was able to score 60GB units. So they are shipping out and it is very possible to get one 
My other buddies we able to get a PS3 the very next Saturday I told them about it...
