problems after installing winxp

Hello, i was running win2k but den had a couple problems with video editing software, so on the advice of my friend i changed to winxp pro. when i did half of my mp3's and audio were damaged and will no longer play. Could anybody know the reason for this? Something about a missing header. i backed everything up on a slave harddrive i have on my system. The files are the same size, but the mpeg 1.0 layer 3 of the mp3 is now mpege 1.0 layer 1 with a 96kbit instead of 128 or 192 of the mp3s that were encoded. Has anybody had this problem ever? Im being pretty vague so if you need more info just let me know. Kinda gettin' annoyed that i might have to re-encode a lot of mp3's from my collection.

well if these files were copy-protected when you encoded them in one windows install a re-install will make them unusable.

what software did you encode them with, and did you encode to MP3Pro or just normal MP3. you see MP3Pro splits the high and low frequency sections of the MP3s into different parts and encodes one as a stanrad MP3 then the other as a seperate. so Mp3s will still play but will be missing most of their information (which is still there just not active)

i need more info.

is there a way to correc this problem? or are my mp3's just dead data? before i installed winxp i did do a win2k reinstall... do u think this could of done that?
