I am about to build my first ever Pentium-based system. I will be using a 2.26 Mhz P4 with the 533 Mhz FSB.

I deffo will be using 1 x 512 MB Samsung PC2700 dimm.

I would like USB 2 but have no need for RAID, LAN or integrated Graphics. What chipset is best and then which boards.......

My objectives are, in this order:-
a) stability
b) Performance
c) overclockability

Seems that:-

1)SiS 645DX Chipset has some great reviews.
The MSI 645e Max2 looks good as does the Asus P4S-533

2) i845E has been recommended for its stability and overclockability
A good example seems the Abit BD7-II BUT i am concerned that the 333 Mhz DDR is not natively supported and so to use my pC2700 is an overclock. It also costs a good $30 more.

3)i845G. Has 333 DDR support but who the hell wants to pay for integrated graphics when u have a Ti4400. I would consider it but at circa $50 more than SiS is it worth it?

4)VIA. Yes VIA have a P4 chipset with DDR support but i hate VIA.

Any views on this would be appreciated. If you wanted a fast STABLE P4 platform using 333Mgz DDR what would you buy???

Cheers all

you mean 850E...
anyways...theres a review at xbit comparing different chipsets (ddr, rdram) with 533FSB.
i suggest you read that.
If you want my opinion, i would lean towards the sis645dx chipset...but the 845G seems appealing as well.
if yu can wait for fall, the 845GE chipset will be out and it will have official ddr333 support.

Just got an Asus P4S533...great chipset SIS645DX. I strongly recommend this board. don't pay more than 125 for it though, I got a little burned but I am still happy. As good or better than an e845. Onboard lan is great for my cable modem. Onboard sound is ok...I have SB Live oem so I don't need it.

Nothing evil is but thinking makes it so.
