I am about to build my first ever Pentium-based system. I will be using a 2.26 Mhz P4 with the 533 Mhz FSB.
I deffo will be using 1 x 512 MB Samsung PC2700 dimm.
I would like USB 2 but have no need for RAID, LAN or integrated Graphics. What chipset is best and then which boards.......
My objectives are, in this order:-
a) stability
b) Performance
c) overclockability
Seems that:-
1)SiS 645DX Chipset has some great reviews.
The MSI 645e Max2 looks good as does the Asus P4S-533
2) i845E has been recommended for its stability and overclockability
A good example seems the Abit BD7-II BUT i am concerned that the 333 Mhz DDR is not natively supported and so to use my pC2700 is an overclock. It also costs a good $30 more.
3)i845G. Has 333 DDR support but who the hell wants to pay for integrated graphics when u have a Ti4400. I would consider it but at circa $50 more than SiS is it worth it?
4)VIA. Yes VIA have a P4 chipset with DDR support but i hate VIA.
Any views on this would be appreciated. If you wanted a fast STABLE P4 platform using 333Mgz DDR what would you buy???
Cheers all
