I recently had my laptop hard drive replaced and was
trying to get my e-mails, etc. back where they belonged
when my sound quit working. All the checks I know how to
do indicate that the sound settings, volumes, etc. are
OK. I also did a virus scan with Norton and Trend Alert
to see if I had a virus. I don't. I did a system
diagnostic scan which indicates that the sound card
works. I also tried resetting my system to 1 day
earlier, which didn't fix the problem. I've since reset
it back.

Sound settings? Are you telling us that they worked after
your replaced your HD and then suddenly stopped working?

I'm tempted to ask you about all the usual suspects.
